Wedding Fever

So it's that time of the year again. Another wedding to go to! I'm very excited because next month my little cousin is getting married! I'm trying to find the perfect dress, shoes, purse etc. It's going to be a really special day :)

My cousin is a few years younger than me. She grew up right down the block and even though she was younger we always hung out. I used to babysit her and as she got older we became friends. I witnessed her courtship with her soon to be hubby since their summer romance began in her late teens.

It's so weird. I remember when my aunt brought her home from the hospital after she was born. I think her Dad was working the late shift so my aunt asked if I could spend the night at her place and help her take care of her new baby (this was before they moved down the block from us). I was young and couldn't really help but my aunt knew how excited I was about the new baby and I think she wanted the company. I remember how in awe I was of the tiny baby with all the hair. Now she's a grown woman getting ready to become someone's wife. It blows me away!

So to my beautiful, brilliant and sweet cousin... I love you lots and can't wait to see you walk down the aisle in your stunning dress and to hear you take those solemn vows as you embark on a new chapter in your life. I know we are all going to need lots of tissues that day because seeing you all grown up is going to make me really emotionally! But later on we will dance the night away at your reception and laugh as we always do :)

My Little Bookworm...

One of my greatest joys as a Mom is seeing Julia read on her own! She has grown and learned so much since starting 1st grade. It's so amazing and such a blessing because reading has always been an important part of my life. To see her immersed in a good story and excited about delving into the world of reading is awesome.

She enjoys and is enraptured by every word she reads. And she enjoys journaling about what she has read too. Each night she is required by her teacher to read from a chapter book for 30 minutes and then right about what she has read.

The best part of her learning to read was when she got her new Bible from my Mom. My Mom bought her a beautiful pink princess Bible and gave it to her for her brothers' birthday party. She was so excited! She had been asking for a Bible of her own for quite some time. To see her so hungry for the word of God makes me so happy! That week she pulled out her brand new sparkly pink Bible and read aloud to me the 1st few chapters of Genesis. She did not have to ask me for help at all! I was so touched!

As she grows in reading, I hope to get her to read the books I cherished while growing up. I want her to read and enjoy books like Little House on the Prairie (I read every single book in the series!) and the Anne of Greene Gables series. I was and still am a proud bookworm and hope all my kids have the passion for reading that I have!

My Name is Jessie...... I like to DANCE!!!!

Yo Gabba Gabba- such a silly title for a show that has become a big hit in our house.

When I first saw promos for the show, which is seen on Nick Jr., I thought it looked so weird! Funky psychedelic colors. weird creatures and 70's looking outfits! No way was I going to let my kids watch this wacked out show. But one day something said let me give it a chance. This very colorful show with all the music and dancing had Jr. fascinated! I had to play the show over and over again that day.

DJ Lance Rock says the words "Yo Gabba Gabba " and the brightly hued characters in his boom box case come alive to begi
n their adventures at the beginning of each episode. There is always a theme/lesson for each show like "Happy", "Love", or "Sleep". The characters--Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee all learn the lesson of the day through music and dance.

They have cute segments like the "Super Music Friends Show" The music is so catchy! I find myself singing songs like "I am So Happy" or saying "My Name is Jessie... I like to DANCE!!!"

Seeing the kids enjoy this show is so much fun. They dance and sing along and are just captivated by this show. I love how excited they get and
love how much they get into the music. It reminds me of when Julia was little and loved watching Laurie Berkner's videos on Noggin. That gives me a flashback to the Victor Vito and Freddie Vasco days!

It also reminds me of the shows I grew up with like the Electric Company, The Magic Garden, Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street! Great shows with great music and wholesome messages!
