Flashback Friday- Blog History

I started my blog as an outlet for my writing. I have been blogging on here for about a year I think. My blog has evolved as I've become more a part of the blog community and found so many blog friends and learned about blog carnivals and memes. It's been fun participating, meeting new people and sharing a little about me and my familia!!!

Friday Flashback....

When we cleaned out our closets last week we found a whole bunch of old stuff. Among those things was my junior high school diploma and class picture! I went to a Christian school for my three years in Junior High and have so many good memories from those days. One was discovering a contemporary christian rock group called Degarmo and Key. I was a HUGE fan of them in those years so as a tribute here is an old video from those days: "Every Moment"

I'm the one holding the sign... this is from 1986!!!!

This is an update for 2008 of the wassup guys that appeared in those budweiser commercials that were so popular a few years ago.

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for my Mom's wisdom. She always knows the right words to say to me to keep me focused. She gave me some great advice today and opened my eyes. It was one of those "aha" moments and I am just thankful that God can use my Mom in such a way when it comes to giving me the words I need to encourage me.

I feel like my relationship with my Mom, which was strong to begin with, has strengthened even more now that we are sisters in Christ. I am so thankful that in this season of my life I can have my Mom walking in faith with me. Our bond is so much more spiritual and just knowing that we are both keeping each other in prayer is amazing.

In two weeks she becomes an official member of the church we have been attending. I am so proud of her and can't wait to see her grow even more in her relationship with Christ. It is going to be so cool to be at the prayer service when they announce her membership!!!!

Here we are a few pictures of me and my Mom! The first one is at her surprise 50th birthday party a few years ago, the second picture was at her vow renewal ceremony to mark her and my Dad's 30th wedding anniversary and the last picture is at my wedding (December 2000). Her and my dad will be married 36 years on November 25th! This is the same day she is going to be officially named as a member of our church :)

Yes We Can!!!!

I woke up this morning and thought I had dreamed up all that had happened the night before, but it is a reality!!!! I feel so proud and am so happy right now. No matter what your politics are, last night was historic and poignant and moving. One point that was made by a political analyst on ABC news struck a chord with me. She talked out how the Capital building in DC was built by slaves and said how they probably never imagined that one day an African- American would be taking the oath of office for President of the United States on the very steps of the building they were working on. I got goosebumps hearing her say that.
Our country has a long road ahead but there is hope and a path to change. Let's hope we can all continue to pull together! Yes We Can!!!!

Wordless Wednesday- Halloween Edition!

Tackle it Tuesday and Tuesday Toot

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

I want to give myself a toot for voting today!!! I got up early and was ready to go as soon as hubby got home from dropping Julia off at school. I wanted to beat the going to work crowd and the evening crowd. Thankfully no long lines for me to wait on! But if you do encounter lines be patient and exercise your right to vote!

I haven't had a chance to blog because I took on a big tackle with hubby. We cleaned out our closets!!! It seemed like a never ending task but we finally got it done. I had so many books that I forgot about in those closets. I still had textbooks from college! I also found a folder full of my writing from a creative writing course I took in college. We also found my High School yearbook! I thought I had lost it...

Now I have to find a new "home" for all those books I decided to keep. I would love to get a bookcase but we really don't have the room for it.

I'm just glad we made room in the closet for all the clothes I had piled in our little room. It feels good to know that we decluttered part of the house!!!

Election Day Primer

I meant to post this earlier in the day so I hope that it is still helpful to some people!

To check if you are registered to vote please check out this website: Can I Vote.
It's very easy to use and you can also find information about your polling place and the hours.

Also please check out these voting tips from ABC news:

Q: Can I take off work to vote?
A: Most states require employers to provide time for employees to vote on Election Day. While these laws vary in each state, they generally require employers to give employees time off to vote if the polls aren't open two or three hours outside of the employee's regular shift.
Some states require that employers pay employees for time off while they are voting, while others require employees to request time off from their employers in advance.

Q: What should I do if I go to vote and my name is not on the list?
A: In many, but not all states, you can ask for a provisional ballot. If you forget your ID and can't get home in time to get it, or you aren't registered for some reason, then you can cast a provisional ballot and argue about it after the election.

Q: Can wearing a T-shirt with a candidate's likeness prevent me from voting?
A: It's a first amendment freedom of speech question. Obviously, you can't campaign for a candidate inside the polls or within a certain number of feet in most states. And the problem is that some states have indeed interpreted that wearing of campaign paraphernalia as being electioneering or campaigning.
To be safe you shouldn't wear your campaign stuff when you go to vote.

Q: If I am still in line when the polls close, will I be able to get in to vote?
A: If you are in line when the polls close, then you vote. They can't slam the door in your face.

Q: Do you have to have proof of residency in the state you are voting in?
A: You should bring a photo ID like a driver's license or state issued ID, which are best. Seven states want it and the others will accept alternate photo ids or forms of identification.

Note: Beware of false flyers like one in Virginia telling voters that because of high turnout Republicans will vote Tuesday and Democrats Wednesday.
Also watch out for inaccurate e-mails out there like one going around telling Barack Obama voters that for their vote to count, after they vote for him they then have to vote straight Democratic on the ballot.

Please make sure you take the time to vote tomorrow! It is so important!!!
